First Aid at Work

Overview

All organisations are required, by law, to ensure they have a sufficient number of employees who hold a valid First Aid Certificate. This essential qualification is designed for nominated first aiders in large, high-risk working environments, such as construction and manufacturing. The course provides the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to emergency situations involving adult casualties, including how to assess an incident and recognise the signs and symptoms of injury and illness. Combining theory with practical skills training, using dummies and first aid equipment, the course covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), auto-injectors and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness, such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis. The course content meets the requirements of both the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and the Health & Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI).
