NLTG’s Study Programme Learner of the Year 2022 – Martin Lamb-Bentley

Well done to the winner of NLTG’s 2022 Study Programme Learner of the Year, Martin Lamb-Bentley.

Martin left school in summer 2022 and joined NLTG’s Study Programme course in Oldham. Martin didn’t have a very positive experience at school and left without passing his exams. After joining the Study Programme, Martin knew that this was his opportunity to make a change. He expressed an interest in completing a Traineeship, which he knew would be a challenge, but he was willing to put in the effort!

Pictured below is Martin receiving his Award from NLTG Managing Director, Gareth Lindsay and his tutors, Jill Orrell and Kirsty Taylor.

Throughout his course, Martins’ dedication to improving did not go unnoticed. His Tutor, Jill Orrell, was thrilled to see that he was attending all his planned lessons and was always on time. He worked hard in class and even took the initiative to sit further away from his friends so that he could avoid any distractions from his studies. Martin would also stay behind after class to ask for feedback and spend extra time on his CV and Traineeship application.

Martin’s Tutor Jill, commented:

“Martin had a positive presence in the classroom and was always respectful to his classmates and NLTG staff. He was not afraid to answer questions and express his opinions, even when they differed to the rest of the class. It was clear from day one that Martin was determined to change and improve.”

After all of Martin’s hard work, Jill was delighted to tell him that his Traineeship application had been successful.

He was offered a work experience placement at a local Furniture Manufacturer and feedback from his employer is that “Martin is always on time, has a great attitude and is a good worker”.

Martin continued to attend lessons at NLTG’s Study Programme centre alongside his work placement and in doing this, managed to pass his Functional Skills English and is still working towards completing Maths.

Martin’s English and Maths Tutor commented:

“Initially Martin found English to be a challenge. Despite this, he has progressed well. He is popular with his classmates and always takes part in group discussions. It has been great working with Martin, and I wish him all the best for the future.”

Martin very much deserves this award and has shown that he is ready to change his life for the better and make a success of his future.

Congratulations Martin!
