Course Overview

As a production chef apprentice you’ll work with a team of people. The type of foods you cook and produce will vary depending on where you work, which may be in a restaurant, hotel, care home, school, hospital, pub, café or fast food outlet. You are likely to work with standardised recipes and menus, producing food often in high volumes. You will need to be highly organised, display energy, accuracy and attention to detail.

During your apprenticeship you'll develop a range of skills and knowledge including: food preparation, assembly, cooking, regeneration and presentation; nutrition and key nutrient groups; industry regulations, legislation, health and safety; communication skills and customer service; business/commercial awareness, sustainability and working to protect the environment. You'll also develop your personal and professional skills and behaviours, learn to lead by example and to work safely and hygienically.

Course Duration

Up to 16 months (ie a practical training period of 12 months, followed by an End Point Assessment (EPA) period of up to 4 months).

Entry Requirements

You will have to take a Skills Scan to ensure your current level of maths and English is at the required level.
