Case Study – Caitlin Louise Apprenticeship at Bury Council Name: Caitlin Louise Company: Bury Council – Homeless Assessment Team Apprenticeship: Public Service Operational Delivery Officer Level 3 Caitlin has landed herself a fantastic opportunity at Bury Council within the Homeless Assessment Team whilst undertaking a Public Service Operational Delivery Officer Level 3 Apprenticeship with NLTG. With Covid affecting her high school experience and Caitlin not enjoying the classroom environment, she decided to apply for an Apprenticeship where she was able to earn money whilst learning a range of new skills and gaining work experience. After doing some online research and finding NLTG’s vacancy with Bury council, she is now exactly where she wants to be with a bright future ahead of her. Caitlin’s role at Bury Council predominantly involves assisting the Homelessness Officers, however, through her continued hard work and determination, she is now taking on her own clients. As a Homelessness Service Apprentice, her duties include, assessing customers’ needs for assistance, processing referrals to other services, monitoring phone calls and other general assisting duties. Caitlin is also on the panel of the Voice for Young People experiencing Homelessness in Bury, where she is given the opportunity to provide her input and help young people who may need assistance from the council. Since starting her Apprenticeship, Caitlin feels she has grown massively in confidence and reflected on how talking to different clients has greatly improved her communication skills. She also now has a wider depth of knowledge surrounding housing laws and specific procedures, which has helped her discover where she sees herself in the future, becoming a full time Homelessness Officer. After having such a positive experience, Caitlin was invited to give a talk to NLTG’s Bury Study Programme students where she gave a thoughtful insight into the world of being a young apprentice. The Study Programme students commented on how they found Caitlin very relatable due to her similarities in age and school experience and were very engaged when she shared her story with them. When asked what she would say to someone considering an Apprenticeship, Caitlin said, “If you’re considering an Apprenticeship, just do it! My Apprenticeship has helped a lot with my anxiety and has given me great work experience. I have been given great opportunities whilst being treated more like an adult. I’ve already recommended NLTG Apprenticeships to my friends!”
