Case Study – Deanne Heyes Traineeship at Saxon Furniture Name: Deanne Heyes Company: Saxon Furniture Job Role: Furniture Manufacture Deanne began her Traineeship in August 2020. Initially she struggled to source a work placement and was a little concerned about the possible stereotype of a female wanting to work in a practical environment. As a single mum, Deanne also struggled to find childcare, which was another hurdle in sourcing a placement. After receiving advice from NLTG to apply for support with childcare costs through the Government’s ‘Care to Learn’ scheme, Deanne was successful in finding a placement at Saxon Furniture in Bolton. Deanne started her work placement in early October and instantly took to the job role. She helped with different aspects of furniture upholstery and made a great impression at the company. Due to her hard work and motivation, Deanne was offered a more permanent role as an Apprentice at Saxon Furniture starting in December. Deanne said, “I can’t thank the staff at NLTG in Bury enough for all the help they have given me in progressing onto an Apprenticeship. I have really enjoyed the work placement and I am looking forward to starting my Apprenticeship.” Andrew from Saxon Furniture added, “Deanne is showing real promise for the future; we hope to see her have a successful career going forward.”
