One of the great things about being an administrator is the flexibility to work in many different environments. Business Administrators are motivated, flexible, organised and work independently or as part of a team, to develop, implement, maintain and improve administrative services. They support and engage with different parts of an organisation and interact with internal and external customers. Administrators develop a range of transferable skills, including professionalism, responsibility and attention to detail, which open doors to careers in a variety of environments. These include: solicitors, recruiting and resourcing, schools, hospitals, accountants, doctors, councils, hotels, manufacturing industries and e-commerce. The need for administrators in so many different environments means a variety of job roles are available such as: Administration Officer, Receptionist, Secretary, Personal Assistant, Team Administrator, Team Leader, Data Entry Clerk and HR Support. Opportunities also exist to progress to supervisory and management roles. Operational Delivery Officers have the vital job of keeping the country running. They make sure that citizens get the services and protection they need, and help people understand what is available and what they need to do to comply with the rules. They do hundreds of jobs in most departments and agencies in central government or local government.
You’ll receive real-life training from experienced staff within your workplace, and be visited regularly by a specialist NLTG Tutor. Your Tutor will support and guide you throughout your Apprenticeship, making sure you develop the skills needed for your job role. As part of your Apprenticeship, you will need to complete a maths and/or English qualification if you do not already hold these qualifications; the level at which you will study will depend upon your Apprenticeship. You may also need to study an ICT qualification. Your NLTG Tutor will provide you with support and guidance.

My job role at Lancashire Constabulary involves working in the Maintenance Unit dealing with damaged police cars, arranging for them to be repaired and dealing with the insurance claims. I have completed my Level 2 Business and Administration and am currently working towards my Level 3 Business Administrator qualification. I enjoy learning on the job as everything I learn through my Apprenticeship, I can put into practice in my job role. I think an Apprenticeship is a better way of learning as it has helped me grow in confidence and has given me the knowledge to use different systems which I have implemented in my job role.
