What is an Apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications available at a range of levels. If you are currently employed, an Adult Apprenticeship allows you to develop new skills, experience and abilities through on-the-job training. If you are not in employment, visit our vacancies page to view our range of Apprenticeships or click here to find out more about our courses for the unemployed.
What are the benefits of an Apprenticeship? By doing an Apprenticeship you will gain a qualification relevant to your job and industry at no cost to yourself. The Apprenticeship will give you further skills, knowledge and experience and enhance your job.
What will I earn? If you are currently employed, you will earn exactly what you are earning at the moment. Doing the Apprenticeship won’t affect your current wage but it could help you with promotion and wage increases once you are qualified and more competent.
Will I have to attend college? No. With all our Apprenticeships we come out to train and assess you in the workplace. We will visit you in work every 4 – 6 weeks to assess your work, guide you through your qualification and set you some work to do for the next visit.
Are there a lot of written assessments? No. Most of the qualification is based on evidence you produce to show you can do the job. This evidence can be collected in written format but also via video and voice recordings.
How long is the course? An Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) lasts between 12 and 18 months. Advanced (Level 3) and Higher (Level 4) Apprenticeships last between 18 and 24 months.
Are there any requirements for an Adult Apprenticeship? As long as you are over 19, currently in a job working more than 16 hrs per week and are not currently in any other form of education, we can deliver a Government funded Apprenticeship to you.
Do I have the same employee rights as my co-workers? Yes. You will remain a full member of the team and be treated like all other workers; the only difference is that you will be studying an Apprenticeship qualification while working. You will be treated fairly and equally by your employer.
Can I study an Apprenticeship if I am a graduate? Yes, changes to Government funding now mean graduates are able to study an Apprenticeship, providing the Apprenticeship develops new skills and is in a different occupational area from any prior qualifications held. This means if you are a graduate looking for a change of career, you can retrain and earn while you learn through an Apprenticeship at a lower level, to support you in developing new skills within a different job role.
