From the Company

I am Jacky McManus, the Company Director for A&L Furnishings. We began the company 10 years ago, but we had used NLTG at our previous company, so we have worked closely with them for many years now, firstly with the younger apprentices, but more recently we have been upskilling our older employees.

We have had 20+ apprentices from North Lancs Training Group as we believe apprenticeships are a great way for the staff to learn whilst still working. Apprentices really help us as a company as they receive quality practical training and go on to be a valuable part of our organisation.

The investment we have in our apprentices gives us a huge advantage as a growing company and expands our skills set. We have many incredibly skilled workers who have also been apprentices themselves and are keen to pass on their knowledge and guidance to new recruits.

We have found that it works better for us that the tutors come to the factory and it is work based learning, rather than going to college, so the apprentice can learn more on the job. The tutors liaise with me regarding training sessions, so we are aware of any issues and how they are getting on regarding the qualification itself.

We would always recommend NLTG, they are very helpful and incisive, however not intrusive.

Case Study - Lee Hall

A&L Furnishings Ltd have worked closely with NLTG for many years, so the company proposed to Lee the opportunity to complete the Level 2 Furniture Manufacturer. Lee agreed he would be happy to take on the new training as this would help to expand his prior knowledge of the trade he was already employed in.

Lee says that what he enjoyed most about undertaking his Apprenticeship was the interactions between all parties involved including his employer, NLTG and independent assessors. Each have provided essential support and understanding during his qualification, which has assisted Lee in being able to advance key skills appropriate to his job role. It has also helped Lee achieved a distinction grade, which he is extremely proud of.
