An Operations/Departmental Manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects, to achieve operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of an organisation’s strategy. They are accountable to a more senior manager or business owner. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same. Key responsibilities may include: creating and delivering operational plans; managing projects; leading and managing teams; managing change; financial and resource management; talent management; coaching and mentoring. Roles may include: Operations Manager; Regional Manager; Divisional Manager; Department Manager and specialist managers. The learner must have the ability and opportunity to: • Manage and support a team of people through performance and talent management. • Build a high performing team. • Manage organisational change. • Support the organisation’s strategy, goals and objectives. • Create and deliver operational plans. • Monitor a budget within own area of responsibility. • Undertake a work-based project. • Manage own personal and professional development. On completion, learners can register as full members (membership fees apply) with the Chartered Management Institute and/or the Institute of Leadership and Management, and those with 3 years’ of management experience can apply for Chartered manager status through the CMI.

Behaviours • Takes responsibility: demonstrates resilience and accountability. • Inclusive: open; approachable; authentic; builds trust; seeks the views of others. • Agile: flexible; creative; innovative; enterprising; positive; adaptable. • Professionalism: sets an example; is fair; consistent and impartial; open and honest. Functional Skills in English and Maths Learners who have not already achieved Level 2 English and Maths must do so as part of the programme.
Learners will need to undertake an End Point Assessment which comprises the following: • Knowledge test • Portfolio of evidence • Competency based interview • Work based project and presentation • Professional discussion
Up to 20 months (ie a practical training period of up to 14 months, followed by an End Point Assessment (EPA) period of up to 6 months).
